Hi there friends!!!

Thank you for visiting my new site!

One of my passions is healthy living. Despite this passion, last spring I reached my highest non-preggo weight ever due to a bout of chronic depression, outside circumstances, and poor choices. Unhappy with my self-image, the choices I was making (and that the fact I was going to have to start buying new pants) I decided I had to choose to get healthy again. In June 2008, I decided to start training for my first figure competition. My initial goal was to lose weight. I didn’t realize I would begin to lose others things in the process, such as my lingering sadness, my bad attitude, and my low-self esteem. As of today, I have lost over 15 pounds and feel better than ever! Most importantly my chronic depression has all but disappeared and I once again have the confidence and energy to give to the people and activities I love. I’ve created this blog because I love people and want to share what has worked for me. Feel free to email me with any questions and sign up for my newsletter to receive free updates, recipes, workouts and more! Good luck on reaching your own health & fitness goals. You can do it!!!

No No No No No!!!»

I was reading a popular women’s health magazine the other day and saw an article on how you shouldn’t eat after a workout and to wait until you are hungry to eat.  Sometimes I think these magazines give out bad advice on purpose because they want their readers to stay fat because if their readers [...]

Aftermath & The Birth and Death of the Abbeys»

I just got back from the gym and planned to only do 20 minutes of HIIT cardio but when I was done I realized I wanted to lift.  Why? After 5 months of intense training I thought I may want to take some time off.  But I realized I love it.  Some things are just [...]

Life : One Rhinestone at a Time»

I’m down to the last day. I’m a little nervous but also excited to be done. I’m ready to eat something other than chicken and asparagus which is all I’ve had for the last few days.
For the past week and a half I’ve been working on my suits non-stop. Gluing over 2000 little [...]

You’re a well of potential.»

Remember the days of doing the “flex arm hang” in school for the Presidential Fitness Test? A few months ago, I decided I wanted to move beyond the “flex arm hang” so I set a goal that someday I would do a pull up all by myself. Pull-ups are fantastic for your entire [...]

Four Days»

I have four days until my competition and I’m a little freaked out.  Just a little.  I keep worrying about two things in particular. One, that I’ll fall down on stage.  I normally wear clunky grandma shoes not 5 inch heels.  I’ve been practicing walking and posing but not nearly enough.  And two, that the [...]

Plateau Panic!»

Hubby put my October picture up and at first, I was super critical of myself. I thought about abandoning my entire blog so I didn’t have to put it up. Why?  I don’t really see much change except I’m even WHITER. I didn’t think that was possible. I think my abs may be showing a little [...]

12 days out from my competition»

This explains my roller coaster emotions. Or is it PMS? Probably both.
I can hardly believe I’m less than two weeks out. Probably because I’m lower on carbs than I’m used to and part of my brain has shut down.
Now I know it’s been a rough few weeks and you can hardly sleep [...]

Just because the shoe fits…doesn’t mean you should wear it.»

Or in my case pants.
So I’ve been storing about 6 pairs of pants for about 10 years in hopes that someday I’d be able to fit back into them. Well that day has come. Today I tried them on and low and behold they fit. But after 10 years they look more [...]

Backyard Butt Blaster»

This is one of my favorite workouts to do when I’m crunched for time or can’t get to the gym. It takes about 15-25 minutes and all you need is a jump rope and that isn’t even necessary.
Jump rope -2 minutes (or jumping jacks)
25 lunges - each leg for 50 total (remember to [...]
